5. When Information Is Required

You may choose not to provide personal information. However, where information is needed to verify your identity, process a payment, complete a transaction, deliver an item, comply with law or protect against fraud, we may be unable to proceed without it.

6. Payments

Payments made through our website are processed using WooPayments, which connects with WordPress.com services operated by Automattic and payment services provided in partnership with Stripe. These providers process payment and transaction information under their own privacy terms and security requirements.

North Jewellers Ltd does not directly store complete card numbers or card security codes. Identification documents supplied directly to us for cardholder verification are handled separately from the card-payment processing system.

7. How We Share Personal Information

We do not sell personal information and we do not routinely share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Where necessary for the purposes described in this policy, we may share limited personal information with:

  • website-hosting, email, form, information-technology, security and backup providers;

  • WooCommerce, WooPayments, Automattic, Stripe and other banking or payment partners involved in processing a transaction;

We only disclose information that is reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose.

Our website may display content or review widgets provided by third parties. If you interact with this content, or if it loads in accordance with your cookie preferences, the provider may receive technical information about your device and visit under its own privacy policy.

8. International Transfers

Some of our technology and communications providers, including providers associated with WordPress.com, WooPayments, Stripe, Google and WhatsApp, may process information outside the United Kingdom.

Where personal information is transferred internationally, we require an appropriate legal safeguard. Depending on the destination and provider, this may include United Kingdom adequacy regulations, approved contractual protections or another safeguard permitted by UK data-protection law.

9. How Long We Keep Personal Information

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including legal, accounting, security and dispute-resolution requirements.

Our usual retention periods are:

  • Enquiries that do not result in a transaction: up to 24 months after the last meaningful contact.

  • Identification supplied for a transaction that does not proceed: normally deleted within 30 days, unless it is reasonably required for fraud prevention, a dispute or a legal obligation.

  • Completed purchases, sales, invoices, transaction correspondence and related identification: normally retained for up to six years from the end of the relevant financial year, or longer where required by law, an investigation or an ongoing claim.

  • CCTV footage: retained for up to 180 days and then overwritten or deleted, unless footage must be preserved for an incident, insurance claim, investigation, legal proceeding or legal obligation.

  • Google Analytics user-level and event-level information: retained for up to 14 months, subject to our Google Analytics configuration and any deletion controls available through Google.

  • Cookie-consent records: retained for the period reasonably required to demonstrate and respect your preferences.

We may retain information for longer where required by law or where it is necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. When information is no longer required, we will delete it securely or anonymise it so that it can no longer identify you.

10. Cookies and Google Analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. Necessary cookies support functions such as security, website operation, shopping features and remembering your privacy preferences.

With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand matters such as which pages are visited, how visitors reach the website and how the website performs. Analytics information may include technical and usage information, but we do not intentionally send your name, email address, identification documents or payment-card details to Google Analytics.

Non-essential analytics cookies should not be activated unless you provide consent through our cookie banner. You can reject non-essential cookies or change your preferences at any time using the cookie settings available on the website. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that took place before consent was withdrawn.

Your browser may also allow you to block or delete cookies. Blocking necessary cookies may affect how parts of the website function.

11. CCTV

We use CCTV at our Leeds premises because of the high-value nature of the items handled and our need to protect visitors, staff and property and to prevent and detect crime.

CCTV records video only. Access to recordings is restricted to authorised persons. Footage may be disclosed where reasonably necessary to the police, insurers, legal advisers, courts or other authorised bodies in connection with an incident, investigation or legal requirement.

You may contact us if you wish to request footage in which you appear. We may need to verify your identity and may have to protect the privacy of other people shown in the footage. Requests are subject to applicable legal rights and exemptions.

12. Keeping Personal Information Secure

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure. Measures may include access restrictions, passwords, secure service providers, device security, backups and limiting access to people who need the information for a legitimate business purpose.

No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. If a personal-data breach creates a risk to individuals, we will assess it and notify the Information Commissioner’s Office and affected individuals where required by law.

13. Your Data-Protection Rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to:

  • ask for access to the personal information we hold about you;

  • ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information;

  • ask us to delete your information;

  • ask us to restrict how we use your information;

  • object to processing based on legitimate interests or direct marketing;

  • receive certain information in a portable format;

  • withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent; and

  • complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

These rights are subject to legal conditions and exemptions. For example, we may need to retain transaction records where required for accounting, tax, fraud-prevention or legal purposes even if you request deletion.

To exercise a right, email sales@northjewellers.com. Please describe your request clearly. We may ask for information needed to verify your identity before responding. We normally respond within one month, although the law allows additional time for certain complex or numerous requests.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the opportunity to address your concern first.

14. Automated Decision-Making

North Jewellers Ltd does not make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on customers solely through automated processing.

Payment, website-security and fraud-prevention providers may use automated systems to assess transactions. Where this occurs, their own privacy notices and rights procedures may also apply.

15. Children

Our website and services are intended for people aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so that we can investigate and take appropriate action.

16. Third-Party Websites and Services

Our website may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to read the privacy information provided by any third party before supplying personal information.

17. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when our services, technology, providers or legal obligations change. The latest version will be published on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be brought to your attention by another appropriate method.
